Hailing from Mexico, in the summer of 2016 he made his Salzburg Festival debut as Lescaut in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut opposite Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov under the baton of maestro Marco Armiliato; an Album has been recorded and released by Deutsche Grammophon in December 2016.
Mr. Pina has done a second appearance at the Salzburg Festival as Luca di Beaumanoir in Nicolai’s Il Templario, in a great concert version of this wonderful but rarely performed opera, leading star tenor Juan Diego Florez.
In 2016 he debuted as Riccardo in Bellini’s I Puritani starring tenor Javier Camarena at Bellas Artes Opera House in Mexico City, returning in 2017 and 2018 as Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte and as Il Conte in Le Nozze di Figaro.
Mr. Pina´s signature roles of Don Giovanni and Carmen´s Escamillo have been performed with great success in Nuevo Leon, Opera de Sinaloa, Camerata de Coahuila, Teatro del Bicentenario in Mexico, Opera de Quebec, Canada and many others.
In 2018 Mr. Piña represents Mexico in the Soccer´s World Cup Russia 2018 making Concerts in Moscow, and in 2019 he makes his Spanish debut with Verdi´s Requiem in Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza, under the baton of maestro Jose Maria Moreno.
Mr. Piña´s Highlights include Marcello in La Boheme, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, Tomsky and Yeletzky in Pique Dame, Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore, Belcore in L´Elisir D´Amore, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Manfredo in Montemezzi´s L´Amore de I Tre Re, and others.
As a member of the Zürich Opera International Studio from 2010 to 2012, Mr. Pina has worked with acclaimed maestri Francisco Araiza, Bruno Pola, Nello Santi, Ingo Metzmacher, Muhai Tang and great stage directors as Grischa Asagaroff, Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, Peter Konwitschny, and others. As a graduated Artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, USA, Mr. Piña has been working with maestro Bill Schuman.
Mr. Pina is also a 2016 Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition Washington District Winner in USA, Concurso Internacional de Canto de Sinaloa in 2014, San Miguel de Allende Competition 2015 and Carlo Morelli’s Bellas Artes Competition in Mexico in 2009 and 2015.
