Nato a Istanbul, ha iniziato la carriera concertistica all’età di 12 anni ed ha eseguito tutti i Capricci di Paganini prima di compierne 15. In seguito a un suo recital è invitato dalla Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra a suonare il Concerto per violino e orchestra di Cajkovskij.
Da allora Cihat Askin è diventato una figura di spicco nella vita musicale: suona regolarmente come solista con le più importanti orchestre della Turchia e ha tenuto concerti in tutta Europa, Asia, Africa e Stati Uniti. Ha collaborato con musicisti come i violinisti Shlomo Mintz e Ida Haendel, i direttori J.L. Cobos, Yoel Levi e Alexander Dmitriev e ha suonato come solista con l’Orchestra da Camera di Losanna, la Hannover NDR Symphony Orchestra, la Praga Symphony e la Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. Tra i numerosi riconocimenti che gli sono stati attribuiti ci sono quello della Società Filarmonica di Istanbul, il premio come migliore interprete di Bartok al Concorso Internazionale “Yehudi Menuhin” nel 1987 e l’Outstanding Merit Prize al Concorso Internazionale “Carl Flesch” di Londra nel 1990.

Born in Istanbul, he gave his first recital at the age of 12 and was able to play all Paganini Caprices before he was 15. He completed his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in London at the Royal College of Music with Rodney Friend and at the City University with Yfrah Neaman.
Being a prominent figure in music, he shared the same stage with world famous artists like Cobos, Dmitriev, Yoel Levi, Shlomo Mintz and Ida Haendel. He has been to festivals and concerts across USA, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa. He participated as a jury member in international contests, which held in countries like Bulgaria, Serbia, Poland, Israel and Switzerland.
Among his many prizes may be mentioned, Menuhin and Flesch, he is granted the Foyer des Artistes award in 2002 and the J. F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts – Gold Medal award in 2009. In 2007, he founded Askin Ensemble with an aim to fulfill the needs of variety of quality music, develop chamber music projects and to support growing young musicians.
