Nato a Stoccolma, Svezia, Mats Liljefors, su invito del Re di Svezia ha fondato il Festival Estivo al Palazzo Reale di Stoccolma, diventato oggi uno dei festival più prestigiosi del mondo.
Con l’Orchestra Reale da Camera di Stoccolma ha compiuto varie tournées mondiali (come il Toyota Classic Tour in Asia) e si è esibito nelle più importanti sale da concerto, tra le quali la Musikverein di Vienna, la Carnegie Hall di New York, la Philharmonie di Berlino.
Ha collaborato con varie orchestre quali la Münchner Philharmoniker, la Saint Petersburg Philharmonia, la Čajkovskij Symphony Orchestra di Mosca, l’Estonian State Symphony Orchestra, la Riga Symphony Orchestra, la Novosibirsk Symphony Orchestra, l’Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional in Brasile, la Bruckner Orchester Linz, la Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, la Israel Chamber Orchestra, l’Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, l’Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, l’Orchestra Cantelli di Milano, l’Orchestra Sinfonica di Lecce, l’Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional in Mexico, la Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mats Liljefors is the principle conductor of the Royal Baltic Symphonic and Royal Swedish Chamber orchestras, and art director of the Music in the Royal Palace and the Royal Baltic festivals. Mats Liljefors has performed with the Munich Philharmonic orchestra, the Sofia State Opera orchestra, the Bavarian State Opera orchestra, the Moscow Bolshoy Theatre orchestra, the Parma Opera in Italy, the St Petersburg Philharmonic Society Academic Symphonic orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphonic orchestra, the San Carlo orchestra in Naples, the Estonian State Symphonic orchestra, the Latvian Philharmonic orchestra, the Moscow Tchaikovsky orchestra, the Vienna orchestra Konzertverein, and the Moscow Chamber orchestra amongst others. He has also conducted the performances of such prominent musicians as Birgit Nielsen, Nikolai Gedda, James McCracken, Barbara Bonney, Josef Suk and many others. Paying great attention to young talent, he devotes much of his festival programmes to potential future soloists.
